Importance of Attitude and Focus in Empty-Hand Kata Practice – A Seminar by Master Ochiai
Date & Time: Friday, November 4; 5:00 – 6:25 pm
Master Ochiai will provide both discussion and practice on the topics of tanden, intention, patience, fresh mind, and ki-ai and how these important principles may permeate our training in traditional martial arts. While these topics are touched upon in our weekly classes, the extended time frame and singular purpose of this seminar will allow Master Ochiai to delve more deeply into these principles.
This is a unique opportunity for all of our Virginia students to attend a seminar with Master Ochiai! Normally, these seminars are held in upstate New York on Saturday mornings, and so are very difficult for us to make. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!
This seminar is for Wa-shin Ryu students only ages six and up. Registration forms are available at the front desk.
Junior Black Belt Testing
Junior brown belts that have been selected by Sensei Winkler will be testing for their junior black belt on Friday night! They have been working very hard in preparation for their test. The test will be performed by the Wa-shin Ryu Dan (black belt) Committee, consisting of many of the most senior Wa-shin Ryu black belts. Only family members of those being tested may come to watch.
56th Anniversary Karate Tournament
Date & Time: Saturday, November 5; 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
We welcome the public to come and watch this wonderful event! There will be special demonstrations by senior Wa-shin Ryu black belts and Virginia junior students. Lunch and a gift from Master Ochiai will be provided for all competitors* and spectators!
This is the first tournament we’ve held since COVID, and it’s gearing up to be a big one. We have students flying and driving in from all over the country to compete and demonstrate!
